Our Story & Community Mission

Healthcare is deeply personal. So is why we built Cura.

We didn’t start Cura to create another generic software product. We started it because we’ve lived the frustration, the exhaustion, and the gaps in healthcare — and we believe understanding the whole person behind the symptoms changes everything.

The People Behind Cura

Who we are & why we are doing this

Four people from engineering, medicine, AI, and family caregiving. Each of us brought our own lived experiences to the same conclusion: healthcare must become more human, continuous, and contextual.

Founder's Personal Story

Why Cura exists — my personal experience

By Rutger Wiersma, Co-Founder & CAIO

Cura didn’t start with a business idea.
It started with a personal experience.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with things like fatigue, overstimulation, bloating and stomach problems. During my studies in Mechanical Engineering, these complaints became much more intense. I felt constantly stressed, exhausted and physically and mentally out of balance.

Eventually, I was diagnosed with IBS.

It gave my symptoms a name, but it didn’t really answer the question I kept asking myself:

“Why is this happening?”

Over the years, I tried different approaches. I changed my diet, started exercising more, worked with healthcare professionals and began learning much more about nutrition and lifestyle.

At some point, I started keeping detailed records of what I ate, how I felt, my symptoms and what was happening in my daily life.

And slowly, I started seeing patterns.

The problem was that all this information was scattered across food diaries, notes, test results and my own observations. Connecting the dots took months and required a huge amount of effort.

But the more I understood, the more I realized how valuable this information could be. Not just for me, but also for the healthcare professional trying to understand what was really going on.

That led to a simple question:

“Why don’t we make it easier for people to capture what is happening in their daily lives, while using AI to help identify meaningful patterns and turn all that information into something useful?”

Not to replace healthcare professionals. But to help people understand themselves better, while giving healthcare professionals a more complete picture of the person behind the symptoms.

That is a big part of the vision behind Cura.

I believe healthcare should be about more than treating individual symptoms. It should be about understanding the person as a whole.

And that is what we are trying to build.

Our Guiding Principles

How we are building Cura

We intentionally reject the playbook of impersonal SaaS metrics and black-box algorithms. We build for genuine human connection and medical safety.

Understanding the Whole Person

99% of health happens between 10-minute clinic visits

Healthcare cannot be confined to brief visits once every few weeks. Daily nutrition, sleep disruptions, stress, and subtle symptoms hold the real keys to understanding what is happening.

Verbatim-Grounded Medical Truth

Strict grounding in verbatim patient words

We reject black-box AI that makes guesses or assumptions. Every symptom, medication note, and pattern surfaced by Cura is strictly verifiable against raw patient or carer logs.

Empowering Clinicians, Never Replacing Them

30-second pre-visit longitudinal briefs

We never diagnose, prescribe, or record live consultation rooms. We provide clinicians with clear, structured 30-day summaries so they can spend their precious consultation time truly listening.

Join Our Care Community

We are building this together with you.

Healthcare is too important to be built behind closed doors. We believe true progress comes from listening to the people living with chronic symptoms, the families caring for them, and the clinicians striving to give better care.

For Patients

Your Voice & Ownership

Share your daily reality without being second-guessed. Help us test new logging tools, take part in co-design roundtables, and ensure your health memory belongs 100% to you.

Share your patient experience

For Carers & Families

Recognizing the Care Circle

Carers provide the indispensable daily support that clinical records miss. Help us build proxy workflows that recognize your observations with proper provenance and dignity.
